Roman Crazy by Alice Clayton & Nina Bocci

Summary from Amazon:

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She's left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds--and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery's thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she'd see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man--the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and--hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello...

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It's heady, it's fevered, it's wanton, and it's crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

My Thoughts:

I have always wanted to go to Italy; the history, the art, the food! Reading this book made me feel like I was actually there-smelling, tasting, touching all the beauty of Rome.  I finished this book with an even bigger yearning to go to this beautiful area and experience it for myself! These two writers wrote about the city so very well that I felt as if I was right there myself-truly wonderful.
The story itself is filled with funny, loving and endearing characters and I felt their joy and pain as well.  Avery has gone through so much and given up so much that I was rooting for her right from the beginning.  Her story is real and authentic.
Marcello is the love she left behind to live the life she thought she was supposed to live, never realizing that she wasn’t truly happy nor was she being true to herself.  Once that life fell apart, she realized she had to start over and that meant going back to her old self in order to find out who she was really meant to be.  Finding Marcello again was a shock to Avery and getting to know him again makes her think about what she wants out of her life and also what she is never willingly to give up again, herself.  Avery’s story is real and authentic.
This is a truly great story about finding love again but not just with a partner in life but within yourself!
4.5/5 stars
