Here is what I thought...
I was very intrigued by the premise of this book and could not wait to read it even though it isn't in my usual wheelhouse. Vox is being compared to The Handmaid's Tale a lot,which I started to read but just could not get into, so I was worried but tried it out anyway.
I don't know exactly what to say about this one other than it is a great and timely premise with so much potential but the execution was just...off. I cannot pinpoint what it is exactly whether it was poor editing or just too much going on but this fell flat for me. The main character, Jean, is someone I want to root for and did at first, but she ends up being just as sexist sometimes as the men and she makes some stupid life decisions that I just cannot get on board with.
I do feel this would be a great book club pick in that discussion points abound! I would love to sit down with someone and discuss some of the things that happen in this story but I still just didn't really care for how the story was put together...that seems crazy, but it is true! 2/5 stars
